Who Should Attend
Perfect for interior design professionals who want to improve their skills, along with individuals keen to design a lighting scheme.

Course Detail
Lighting is a key but often neglected part of any design scheme. And this course acts as an introduction to residential lighting for anyone who is new to the subject. After learning lighting principles, you will be guided through the process from carrying out a lighting survey to designing a simple scheme and communicating your idea to a lighting specialist. The course will cover how to measure and control lighting and how to create lighting effects. You will create a simple lighting scheme, producing a lighting plan and specification.

Course Outcomes
You will leave with an understanding of the technology of lighting design, able to use natural and artificial lighting within interiors. What's more, you will take a brief from a customer and be able to speak to contractors and lighting designers with confidence.

Course Progression
Students who have studied this Short Course may benefit from progressing onto Introduction to Furniture Design, The Principles of Interior Design One , The Principles of Interior Design Two and Exploring Materials for Interiors.

Course Tutor (Pictured)
Deborah Blandford has a Masters Degree from the Royal College of Art and 28 years experience working as design consultant to architectural practices and individual clients.She has a passion for working collaboratively and globally, resulting in a truly eclectic career. Projects have ranged from hotels, bars and restaurants, retail spaces, aviation design, exhibitions, offices to high end residential interiors. Clients have included the government of Saudi Arabia. Deborah also designs Furniture and products, setting up Blandford Jones to design and supply bespoke furniture to city institutions, as well as developing products with Ross Lovegrove. Alongside her professional career she has taught part time across all educational levels in both the public and private sectors as well as delivering specialist courses for companies including British Airways, The Foreign Office and the Victoria and Albert Museum. Currently Associate Lecturer at The University of the Arts London &Professor at Syracuse University.
